Yes, it’s starting again – my Lisa Marie Presley obsession. Not that it ever stops really, but it is heightened in the weeks leading up to her tour. I watch her videos and listen to her albums over and over. But this time I am only listening to Lisa’s newest album Storm and Grace – on repeat at work and in my car. When I saw Lisa in June, I was a little disappointed that she only played a 50 minute set and all but one song was off of Storm and Grace. I didn’t truly appreciate the album then. It was such a departure from her first two albums. There were no songs like Idiot or SOB. Nothing on the new album really rocked. I was wrong. The songs on Storm and Grace do rock – just not in that obvious way. And Lisa’s lyrics are even more profound and beautiful. My favorites are Over Me, So Long, Un-Break, Storm of Nails, Sticks and Stones, and Storm and Grace. I am completely in love with Storm and Grace. I enjoy it just as much as, if not more than, Lisa’s first two albums. It takes me a while to adapt to change. I wasn’t too crazy about U2‘s Achtung Baby either when it first came out because it was such a departure from The Joshua Tree and Rattle and Hum – and now it’s one of my favorites.
So with my newfound appreciation and love for Storm and Grace, I am even more excited to see Lisa Marie Presley again in concert – although I am hoping her set is longer than 50 minutes. If I still lived in Memphis, I could be going to her first three shows of the tour – two in Tunica and one in Nashville. Since I can’t go her first show, I am going to her last show of the tour. I am seeing Lisa Marie Presley at Carnegie Hall in New York City on November 17th. And since I could not wait until the last show of the tour to see Lisa, I am also seeing her six days earlier at the Chameleon Club in Lancaster, PA on November 11th.
Did you know that Lisa Marie Presley loves storms? While everyone else in Memphis was scared of an upcoming tornado, Lisa would be excited. She even named her only son Benjamin Storm. And now twenty years later, Lisa’s third album is titled Storm and Grace and has two songs on it with storm in the title – Storm of Nails and Storm and Grace.
