I came across your blog when I googled "Tim Tebow U2 fan." Hah!

I am a huge U2 fan, though I couldn't dedicate as much of my time to their last tour as you! I may have to look into your blog a bit more now... :)

Cheers,
Erin

Deena, Back in the summers of the 1940s on my visits to Mississippi, Elvis would be out in front of the hardware store in Tupelo. Usually, he would be sitting on a curb as I remember, always with a smile and friendly attitude. One of his grandmothers was a friend of one of mine. I have no names nor photos of that chance meeting.
During the summers of 1953-1955, I drove a wholesale bakery truck for Dortches, the Buddy Bar people. One of my stops was in Memphis where the unloading zone was behind some buildings. While waiting my turn to unload and watching pretty young women as they worked in the local bakery, I notice a young man about my age waiting his turn to unload.
He introduces himself, tells me where he is from, about his family, their move to Memphis from Tupelo and things in general. Elvis never mentioned his interest his interest in music during those chance meetings.
I volunteered for the draft in the summer of 55 to fulfill my service obligation, completed Basic and Advanced Training and ended up at Travis AFB, Ca. Boys from New Jersey were talking about this Elvis singer and thought it strange that I had never heard of ELVIS. The Army kept us very busy and even on our off days we has to stay clear of our officers or they would find something for us to do. I didn't see him on TV until after being released from service about 2 yrs, later and was surprised to learn that it was the same Elvis.
The Elvis I knew was very friendly, very kind and polite, humble, a always had a smile, friendly handshake or wave, during those summers in the mid-50s. I know he would have remembered those chance meetings and conversations but Inever tried to make contact with him after he became ELVIS. He had a great love for his family and people.
No photos of these meetings nor of the ones with a very young singer Wynette Pugh and my cousin, Linda Loden, durind summer visits to Ms. 12/26/2011 There is a new book in the pipeline pertaining to 'T-Wynette' I don't know if I'll be mentioned in it but she liked older boys and she was too young for me at the time.
