Music & Baseball in Chicago
Going to be a great long weekend in Chicago! After dropping off the dogs at the vet Thursday morning (big sigh!), I’m driving 8+ hours north to Chicago to start my weekend of music and baseball! Staying downtown just a few blocks from Grant Park will make it an easy walk to Lollapalooza and a short drive to the Apollo Theatre and Wrigley Field.
Thursday night I’m seeing Million Dollar Quartet, the story of the night Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins jammed in Sun Studio. It’s only playing on Broadway in New York City and at the Apollo Theatre in Chicago. I’m sitting in the front row!
Friday I’ll spend the entire day in Grant Park at Lollapalooza! I plan on seeing Mavis Staples, Devo, Black Keys and Lady Gaga among others. I haven’t been to Lollapalooza since the early 90s when it was a traveling festival.
Saturday afternoon I’m heading to Wrigley Field to see the Chicago Cubs! I went to Wrigley in September when I was in Chicago for the U2 shows. I love Wrigley! It’s the perfect baseball environment. If I can tear myself away from the after game festivities and make it to Lollapalooza, I’ll check out Deer Tick, Social Distortion and Greenday. But the Wrigley bars may be hard to resist.
Sunday I’m definitely going to Lollapalooza because the whole reason I decided to attend this year was to see Soundgarden! I saw them back in the early 90s and saw Chris Cornell a few years ago. But before Soundgarden, I’ll check out Erykah Badu, MGMT and Cypress Hill.
Then I’ll get up early Monday morning to get back to Memphis by 5pm to pick up the dogs (Yay!) It should be a fantastic long weekend in ChiTown!
Green Day rules! Very…very cool…Have fun!
