White Oak Tavern moves into Jillys in Ellicott City

TWOT-Summer-1024x923

After 21 years, Jillys in Ellicott City closed its doors for the last time Sunday night. Along with being a good spot for dinner and drinks, Jillys was especially fun on Sundays. It was a place to meet up with your friends to watch your favorite football team. Although it was the site of a Ravens Roost, Jillys had all the games on every Sunday. Now we will have to wait for Glory Days to open across the street for our Sunday football games.

Taking over Jillys spot is The White Oak Tavern, who started renovations Monday and is expected to open in December. It is a tap house that serves farm-to-table food pub food and craft beer. According to Sara Toth’s article in the Howard County TimesWhite Oak Tavern is owned by four previous employees of Bare Bones Grill and Brewery, including Peter Frey. Frey said they are redoing the bar and decor and expanding the kitchen. White Oak Tavern will serve farm-to-table food from Maryland farms and will feature 25-35 craft beers. Frey said the food will be “high-end but in a casual environment.”

According to White Oak Tavern’s Twitter feed, they may open in November and they are selling memorabilia from Jilly’s. According to White Oak Tavern’s Facebook page Greg Mason is the executive chef.
