Growing Pains, Grease2, Guns n Roses – the 1980s from A to Z
Blogging from A to Z April Challenge
Like, OH MY GOD! It’s totally awesome you came back to find out what my favorite G’s are from the 1980s. Like the most rad tv show, movie and music from the 80s.
Growing Pains
I think I love the theme song for Growing Pains as much as the actual show. It’s one of those songs that makes me ache, like a nostalgia for the 80s and my teens kind of ache – much like the theme to St. Elmo’s Fire (more on that on April 22nd). I still watch Growing Pains when it comes on tv, and I have the first few seasons on dvd. I remember acting out Growing Pains in drama class in high school. I played Maggie.
Grease 2
My favorite movie of all time is Grease, but it was released in 1978. Grease 2 was released in 1982. While Grease 2 isn’t nearly as great as the original, its campy cheesiness is brilliant. I love this movie and its soundtrack. “Cool Rider” was pretty much my theme song the summer between elementary and middle school – before I discovered real music.
Guns N Roses (go gos)
I enjoyed Guns N Roses in high school and have lots of memories associated with their songs including “Sweet Child of Mine,” “Welcome to the Jungle,” “Paradise City,” and “Patience,” which is my favorite GnR song.
Thank you for joining me on my trip back to the totally tubular 1980s as I complete my Blogging from A to Z Challenge. What was your favorite tv show, movie and band or song from the 80s starting with the letter G? Please come back tomorrow to read about my faves from the 80s that start with the letter H. And be sure to check out the 1970s from A to Z here.
Good morning and once again a great blog Deena! I totally agree with you about Growing Pains! I loved that show and the theme song was the best. Thanks for bringing back those sweet memories. Some of my favorite shows from that era along with Growing Pains were The Golden Girls and Gimme a Break! I miss these shows terribly. Grease is also one of my favorites but as you said it was released in 78. I never was able to get into Grease 2 so I never sat through the whole movie but I do have favorites from that era. They were Gremlins and The Golden Child. I still watch them today whenever they come on or I’ll just rent them for the laughs. Guns and Roses was great in the 80’s. I liked their music as well especially Welcome To The Jungle. Thanks again for bringing some fun and great memories to the Internet my friend and many blessings throughout your journey.

You’re more than welcome. The Golden Child is one of Eddie Murphy’s early movies. If you like him and his movies you may enjoy this. It was kind of weird but so was the 80’s. 😊 Enjoy your day. 👍🏾

Grease 2 WAS AMAZING. I loved that movie so much. I don’t even have to click the trailer, I KNOW that is Cool Rider! And “Reproduction” and “Let’s Do It for Our Country.” Wait. What was I doing watching that movie as a kid?!

I think most of it probably went over our heads. I genuinely thought “Reproduction” was a science-based song.

I can’t remember the last time I watched an episode of Growing Pains, though my family watched it back in the Eighties. It’s probably in syndication on one of the nostalgia networks, since I’ve come across other shows from the Eighties and early Nineties on certain channels.

Yes growing pains is on Saturday mornings on the up channel – it didn’t hold up quite as well as some of the other sitcoms from the 80s

I love Grease 2. I actually saw it more growing up than Grease, probably due to the vagaries of UK TV schedules.

Wow! As soon as I opened your blog I knew I’d love it! HUGE Cal fan here – and the ’80s theme to boot! I will be back! Good luck on the rest of the challenge! We’re doing “I’ve Got The Music In Me” this year on The Road We’ve Shared. – looking at how important music is in the Down syndrome community. I hope you’ll stop by and see/hear!

Grease 2: Nope, I don’t recall ever seeing that. I did like the original, but never saw the second version. GNR is a great band. I will listen to any of their songs when I hear them on the radio. My favourite on your list this time is Growing Pains. You are correct, it’s a great theme song. Kirk was cool, his father was calm, his brother was funny, his sister was cute, and his mother was caring. I wanted to be a part of that family. Not that my own family was bad or anything.
