Joanie Loves Chachi, Just One of the Guys, Michael Jackson – the 1980s from A to Z

Blogging from A to Z April Challenge

It’s, like, totally bitchin’ you came back to find out what my favorite J’s are from the 1980s. Like the most righteous tv show, movie and music from the 80s.

Joanie Loves Chachi
I loved this third spinoff of my favorite television show Happy Days (the first was Laverne and Shirley then Mork and Mindy). Joanie loves Chachi barely ran for two seasons, but I dearly loved it. I had always loved Joanie growing up. I think I pictured myself as Joanie in all the episodes of Happy Days. So I followed the love story of Joanie and Chachi very closely and was thrilled when they got their own series. Even more exciting was that they sang. And how I loved their theme song. It just gets to me. Of course have the entire series (all 17 episodes) on dvd.

Just One of the Guys
THE feminist movie of the 80s. I still enjoy Just One of the Guys today. If you haven’t heard of it, the movie is about a pretty high school who is not being taken seriously as a reporter for her school’s newspaper so she masquerades as a boy to prove that she is a good reporter.

Michael Jackson
I had a poster of Michael Jackson hanging in my bedroom in the 6th grade – the one of him in the yellow sweater. It is hard to pick my favorite Michael Jackson song (“Wanna Be Startin Somethin” or “Rock with You”), but “Thriller” is definitely my favorite MJ video.

Thank you for joining me on my trip back to the totally tubular 1980s as I complete my Blogging from A to Z Challenge. What was your favorite tv show, movie and band or song from the 80s starting with the letter J? Please come back tomorrow to read about my faves from the 80s that start with the letter K. And be sure to check out the 1970s from A to Z here.

  3. Just one of the guys! What a daring movie at the time. And Joanie Loves Chachi…who DIDN’T love Chachi?! Sadly, he’s become a lot less lovable over the years.

  5. Loved MJ in the 80s! Thriller was fantastic but I was always just a little more partial to Wanna Be Starting Something. That and PYT.

  6. Once again another great blog Deena. I’ve never watched Joanie loves Chachi like that but I did love them on Happy Days. I also agree with you about the theme song. Beautiful. I do have some favs from back then including cartoons. They were, The Jeffersons, The Jetsons & Jem. I never saw Just One Of The Guys, but it does seem interesting. My favorite during that era was the “Jaws” series (except Jaws 3D 😒). Aaah yes, Michael Jackson. He was the best and definitely my favorite singer!!! I have/had all of his music, a glitter glove similar to his, the Thriller jacket, over a dozen buttons with his face on them, a deck of cards with his pictures, posters, (including the one with the yellow sweater), and his doll. I also went and got the jherri curls in my hair. LOL!! He’s definitely a legend and will be missed. Off The Wall & Thriller are definitely in my favorite albums list. I enjoyed music from Journey during that time. Don’t Stop Believing is one of my favorites. Wow. Such memories. Thanks again Deena!!

    • You must watch Just One of the Guys – I think you’ll really like it. Joanie Loves Chachi is pretty bad but I still watch the DVDs 🙂 do you remember that MJ yellow sweater poster I mentioned? And yes off the wall and thriller were my fave MJ albums too. I loved the Jetsons (and the flintstones) and I also watched the Jeffersons. Thanks for continuing to read my blog. I’m glad you’re enjoying it.

  7. Lot’s of memories here. I do recall Joanie loves Chachi, but I don’t ever recall watching it. Just one of the Guys was one of those 80s film I watched when it first came out, then forgot all about it. I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen it beyond the first time. I like a lot of Michael Jackson’s music, but I’m shocked to realize I don’t own any of his CD’s. I buy a lot at my nearest second hand store, and for whatever reason, I don’t find a lot of his CD’s there.
