Punky Brewster
I watched Punky Brewster, but it certainly wasn’t one of my favorites from the 1980s, but there is no other television show starting with a P that I watched from the 80s.  Punky Brewster was an orphan who, along with her dog Brandon, went to live with a grumpy older man.

 

Pretty in Pink
Like my other favorite movies, I have Pretty in Pink downloaded on my phone and kindle as well as on dvd and watch it repeatedly throughout the year. It is one of my top five favorite movies of all time, not just one of my faves from the 1980s. Pretty in Pink just had its 30th anniversary and was re-released in the theater for two nights. Of course I went to see it, and it was great to watch it on the big screen again. Not sure why I love this movie so much as my faves aren’t usually romantic comedies (Grease, The Outsiders, The Karate Kid, Girl Happy) and I did not have a crush on Andrew McCarthy, but I know every line and could watch it every day and not getting tired of Pretty in Pink. Molly Ringwald and Andrew McCarthy teamed up again a few years later to make Fresh Horses, which isn’t nearly as good and totally different from Pretty in Pink, but I still love that one too. The soundtrack from Pretty in Pink is amazing. “If You Leave” by OMD is quintessential 80s and one of my favorites.

 

Phil Collins
I loved Phil Collins in high school (and into college), especially the album No Jacket Required with songs “One More Night” and “Susudio.”  Other great hits from Phil Collins include “Take a Look at Me Now,” “Separate Lives,” “Easy Lover” and my favorites “In the Air Tonight” and “Against All Odds.” I was obsessed with “Against All Odds” – the song, not the movie. It just really got to me. It was my go-to break up song. I saw Phil Collins in concert when he toured with Genesis in the early 1990s. And of course Phil is a drummer, so he has that going for him!
