Three’s Company, Top Gun, Tears for Fears – the 1980s from A to Z

Blogging from A to Z April Challenge

It’s, like, totally bitchin’ you came back to find out what my favorite T’s are from the 1980s. Like the most righteous tv show, movie and music from the 80s.

Three’s Company
While most of my friends were watching cartoons, I was watching grown up sit coms like Three’s Company. That’s just what I enjoyed. I am sure most of the adult humor went way over my head, but I loved those shows. John Ritter was brilliant, and Don Knotts was a genius.

Top Gun
I was completely obsessed with Top Gun and Tom Cruise in high school. I had Top Gun recorded on my beta, then vhs, and would rewatch it over and over again. I knew every line and would go around quoting the movie: “I feel the need, the need for speed” and “You can be my wingman anytime – bullshit you can be mine.” My favorite scene, besides the beach volleyball scene of course, was when Maverick and Goose serenade Charlie at the bar with “You’ve Lost That Lovin Feeling.” I cried so hard when Goose died (oh sorry spoiler alert) and then was happy to see him resurrected on ER eight years later.

Tears for Fears
I was a big fan of Tears for Fears in middle school, well at the Songs From the Big Chair ablum with “Everybody Wants to Rule the World,” “Shout,” and my favorite “Head Over Heals.”

Thank you for joining me on my trip back to the totally tubular 1980s as I complete my Blogging from A to Z Challenge. What was your favorite tv show, movie and band or song from the 80s starting with the letter T? Please come back tomorrow to read about my faves from the 80s that start with the letter V. And be sure to check out the 1970s from A to Z here.

  1. I wad an avid watcher of three’s company. John Ritter’s physical comedy was priceless. May he rest in peace. To me John Ritter was the Dick Van Dike of our generation. Did love Top Gun. Although Tom Cruise is very good looking I don’t think he’s a beautiful person. Despite that I enjoyed the movie.

Love Head Over Heels! I can’t say that I was totally into Tears for Fears but I sure do like their popular songs. We both wrote about Three’s Company: so sad that we lost John Ritter so early. He was a brilliant comedic actor.
Top Gun always reminds me of a first date I had back when that movie came out. haha

    Great post Deena.

  5. Oh yes Three’s Company was definitely the show back then!! I loved that show and John Ritter was just too funny!! I loved the plot how everyone always got the wrong idea all the time!! LOL!! Top Gun was a great movie. I really enjoyed it but I like Tom Cruise! 😊 Omg! Tears for Fears was one of my favorite groups from back then!!! I loved their music but my favorite song from them was “Break It Down Again” (I know it’s from the 90’s 😉) but I loved it. Some of my favorites from that era including the ones you mentioned are: tv shows-Too Close For Comfort, Taxi & That’s Incredible. Movies- Trading Places(LMBO) & Tango & Cash. Musicians/Bands-Talking Heads(even though they formed in the late 70’s), Talk Talk, Tom Tom Club, & Toto(even though they formed in the late 70’s). Thanks again for such a great blog!! Blessings.

  6. Yes, Tears for Fears are awesome. Love all this 80s music.
For the record, I cried when Dr.Green died on ER. Of course this was just around the time I found out my dad had cancer. In a semi-related note, I also loved Elizabeth Corday (Dr. Greens wife) and was happy when she became a semi-regular on Doctor Who.
