Sorry, but I could not remember any television shows I watched in the 1980s beginning with U (nor could I find any) , so no tv on this post.

Urban Cowboy
Not as good as Saturday Night Fever or Grease, but Urban Cowboy is a very entertaining John Travolta vehicle that he also danced in and was the only one of his three movie deal with Paramount released in the 1980s, released in 1980 actually.

 

U2
What can I say about U2? If you know me, you are already familiar with my passion/obsession with the four lads from Ireland. My other blog is about U2, called On the Road with U2, and I wrote a book, also called On the Road with U2, about all my travels the past 25 years going to U2 shows and the people I’ve met and the places I’ve seen. I’ve loved U2 since the release of The Joshua Tree, still my favorite album today, in 1987 when I was a freshman in high school. I had a U2 poster hanging on the wall in my bedroom labeled with everyone’s names so I wouldn’t get Edge and Adam confused – that poster (with the labels still on it) still hangs on my wall today. I had photos of the drummer Larry Mullen ripped out of teen magazines hanging in my locker. I still love Larry today and was lucky enough to meet him in 2001 and finally get my picture with him last year. (I met and got my picture with Bono in 1992) My favorite song in high school, and still today, was/is “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For.” I remember carrying my big boombox walking along the beach in Ocean City, Maryland the summer between my freshman and sophomore years of high school blaring “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For.” Unfortunately, I did not see U2 in concert on The Joshua Tree tour in 1987 because my mom thought at 14 I was too young to go to a concert. So when the concert movie Rattle and Hum came out the following year, I went with a bunch of friends and it was almost like being at a U2 concert – not that I would know then. Also, my worlds collided when U2 visited Graceland and my Larry talked so passionately about my Elvis. By then, I had all of U2’s albums and listened to nothing but and watched all the U2 specials on MTV. I’m still upset about not being allowed to see The Joshua Tree tour, but I have more than made up for it seeing 90 U2 concerts since the ZooTv tour in 1992.
