Kentucky Rain – Elvis from A to Z
I chose “Kentucky Rain” for my Elvis ‘K’ topic for the A to Z Blogging Challenge. It was a close one between it and the movie Kid Galahad as it’s one of my top 10 favorite Elvis movies, but I think I like “Kentucky Rain” just a little bit more. If you haven’t seen Kid Galahad, check it out. It is not one of Elvis’ cheesy movies. It actually has a good, dramatic story line. Elvis plays a boxer and Joan Blackman, from Blue Hawaii, plays Elvis’ love interest. It is a remake of a Bette Davis and Humphrey Bogart movie from 1937. So back to my actual ‘K’ pick “Kentucky Rain.” I have always really enjoyed this song (probably one of my top 10 favorites), something so familiar about it. It always makes me think of being in Memphis in the rain, even though it’s called “Kentucky Rain.” And while a lot of Elvis’ songs remind me of Memphis, this one really puts me back there. Also, “Kentucky Rain” is one of those great story songs, like you’re watching a short movie in your head. Recorded by Elvis in February 1969 at American Studios in Memphis, “Kentucky Rain” was written by Eddie Rabbitt (who I loved when I was little!) and featured Ronnie Milsap on piano.

I love Kentucky Rain!! Definitely one of my top 10 favorite Elvis songs as well! Nothing in Elvis’s K song category that I can think of is better. I do like King of the whole wide world as well but definitely not as much as Kentucky Rain. I think I like King of the whole wide world because it reminds me of the Elvis documentary Elvis by the Presley’s. That is one of my very favorites! There has been no documentary made where you feel more part of his personal story then that one. I have never seen Kid Galahad!! I will definitely put it on my Elvis movie Bucket List 🙂

I’m glad you did this one, because I think this is my favorite Elvis song of all time. I love the story it tells, and how he really sounds desperate to find the woman he loves.
