I don’t know why, but I am more excited for this Elvis Week than the seven I’ve attended in the past – even more than the 40th last year. It will definitely be the longest Elvis Week for me. I will be gone August 9th through August 20th. Elvis Week is actually Aug 10 through August 18, but I am driving.
I am predicting the highlight of Elvis Week 2018 for me will be Lisa Marie Presley. Her listening party Saturday for the new gospel album Where No One Stands Alone (already crying hearing her duet with her dad on Elvis radio), getting to talk with Lisa at the autograph session before her event (met her various times in the past but always at her concerts, never at an Elvis event) and the ribbon cutting ceremony Friday for Lisa’s new exhibit at Elvis Presley’s Memphis.
I leave Thursday August 9th at 9am and drive about 600 miles (9 1/2 hours) to Cookeville, Tennessee (about an hour and a half this side of Nashville). I’ll have dinner at the Cracker Barrel next door, watch the live Big Brother eviction then hopefully go to sleep. Because I have to get up just after 4am to be on the road by 4:30am to get to Memphis in time for Lisa’s ribbon cutting ceremony at 10am. Barring traffic, it should take 4 1/2 hours to get to Elvis Presley’s Memphis. So hopefully I am there by 9am in time to get my Elvis Week tickets then get a good spot to see Lisa cut that ribbon for the opening of her new exhibit. Then I will hopefully tour Lisa’s exhibit, then eat lunch at Vernon’s (my favorite place on the campus to eat), check in at the Guest House at Graceland (my favorite hotel, feels like home), unpack, hang out in the lobby and read, have dinner at EPs (my favorite in the hotel) and hang out in the lobby some more. That’s Day 1!
Day 2 will start with my VIP of Graceland and EPs Memphis. That will be interrupted with Lisa’s autograph session and listening party for the new gospel album. I cannot wait for this! After, I will continue touring EPs Memphis (including the other two new exhibits the Gospel and Hillbilly Rock exhibits) and tour the mansion again right before it closes. I am having dinner that night at Marlowe’s (my favorite dinner spot in the area) with some old friends. You can see my full, detailed, schedule for the rest of Elvis Week 2018 below. It includes an event at Elvis’ Circle G Ranch, book signings, concerts, panels, memorabilia shows, a party at EPs Memphis, Elvis Fan Reunion, Elvis Fan Club Presidents’ Event, the debut of Jerry’s Girls, Memphis Mafia Reunion, a brunch with Ronnie Tutt, more tours of Graceland and lunches and dinners with good friends! Then on the 19th I drive 900 miles home, spending the night in Bristol along the way.
I will be live tweeting, instagramming and facebook posting my entire 12 days of Elvis Week 2018, so please follow me @DeenasDays on all platforms. And if you’re in Memphis, say Hi if you see me and hope you have as great of a time as I plan to! TCB
