Jerryd Bayless Scores 15 in 4th to push Grizzlies past Celtics 95-88
Despite plaguing turnovers, the Grizzlies claw past the Celtics to win 95-88 behind Jerryd Bayless’ 15-point fourth quarter. Memphis started off strong leading Boston 22-14, but then ended the first quarter only up 27-24. The second quarter was bad for the Grizzlies who only made one basket in four minutes. At the half, the Grizzlies trailed the Celtics 46-50 making only 40% of their shots. Memphis started the second half strong, but only for a couple minutes. At the end of the third quarter, the Grizzlies still trailed the Celtics 66-72. After a 9-2 run, Memphis tied Boston at 82 with five minutes left in the game – thanks to Jerryd Bayless. It was an all Jerryd Bayless fourth quarter! All of Bayless’ 15 points came in the fourth quarter, which led the Memphis Grizzlies to victory over the Boston Celtics 95-88.
Also contributing to the Grizzlies win was Zach Randolph, who scored 15 points with 7 rebounds, Mike Conley, who scored 15 points with 8 assists, and Marc Gasol, who scored 14 points with 8 rebounds. Celtics Jeff Green scored a game high 22 points, and Jared Sullinger scored 16 points. This Celtics loss is the first time Boston has started off the season 0-4 since 1969.
Over the past three years, the Memphis Grizzlies have won 70% of their home games. But they are going to have to stop all the turnovers and make better shots if they want to keep their home winning percentage up. The Grizzlies continue their home stand Wednesday against the Pelicans.
