Xanadu – the 1980s from A to Z

Blogging from A to Z April Challenge

It’s, like, totally bitchin’ you came back to find out what my favorite X’s are from the 1980s. Like the most righteous tv show, movie and music from the 80s.

Sorry, but I could not remember any television shows I watched in the 1980s beginning with X (nor could I find any), so no tv on this post.

Xanadu movie
Nowhere near the hit Grease was, Xanadu was still a great film for any fan of Olivia Newton-John or the 1980s or roller skating. It was a goofy fantasy movie, usually not my thing, but I adored Olivia Newton-John (see my O post) so I absolutely loved Xanadu as an almost eight year old in 1980 and still love it today.

Xanadu soundtrack
I think I wore my Xanadu record out. We used to take our record player out to the carport and roller skate to the soundtrack round and round in our ribbon barrettes just like Olivia wore in Xanadu. A great soundtrack including “Magic,” “Suddenly,” “Whenever You’re Away From Me,” “All Over the World” and the title song “Xanadu.”

Thank you for joining me on my trip back to the totally tubular 1980s as I complete my Blogging from A to Z Challenge. What was your favorite tv show, movie and band or song from the 80s starting with the letter X? Please come back tomorrow to read about my faves from the 80s that start with the letter Y. And be sure to check out the 1970s from A to Z here.

  1. Oh man, I was obsessed with that movie when it came out! I even had the comic book adaptation! And yes, I too wore out the soundtrack…ELO was one of my favorite bands back then!

I never saw Xanadu. I like Olivia Newton-John. Not crazy about musicals or fantasy though so not sure how much I’d like the movie. I don’t know, I might like it. I really enjoyed Mama Mia (Abba/Meryl Streep).

I wrote about the X-Files and Xena Warrior Princess today. I couldn’t think of any show in the 70s or 80s starting with X.

HAVE A BLAST IN MEMPHIS! Can’t wait to hear about it when you get back!

  3. I remember Xanadu well. One of my sisters is a year older than me. At 11, she watched this any time she could. I believe by this point we finally had HBO. Either that or it was on laser disc. Remember those? Years later I picked up the soundtrack and liked it. I believe I just picked the soundtrack CD not too long ago.

  4. I, too, composed my entry on Xanadu. I figured it might be a fairly popular topic for the letter X. Enjoyable post!

  5. Someone else mentioned Xanadu and I have to admit, I’ve never seen it. I don’t even know what it’s about. I feel like I have failed somehow 🙂

  6. I’ve never heard of this movie but if you say it’s good I’m going to take your word for it. Olivia Newton-John is a great actress so one day I may have to check it out. Like the V’s I have no favorites to share but hanks again for another fantastic blog. Blessings
