“An American Trilogy” – Elvis from A to Z

Welcome to the A to Z April Blogging Challenge where I will be blogging every day this month about Elvis Presley … from A to Z (my favorite Elvis songs, favorite Elvis movies, Elvis books, aspects Elvis’ life, etc). Today is April 1st, the first day of the challenge, and that means I’m writing about an Elvis topic that begins with the letter A. I chose one of my favorite Elvis songs “An American Trilogy.”

I’ve always loved “An American Trilogy” SO much for its emotion, as is the reason I love Elvis’ singing so much – his passion. He sings like his life depends on it, and it does feel like he’s singing just for you. In particular I love the passion Elvis demonstrates at the end of the song after the crescendo – that building up is just SO electrical! But the main reason this has always been one of my favorite Elvis songs are the lyrics of the last verse:

“So hush little baby
Don’t you cry
You know your daddy’s bound to die
But all my trials, Lord will soon be over”

Because Lisa Marie’s daddy did die when she was just 9 years old, and Elvis’ trials were over. Just gets me EVERY time!

“An American Trilogy” is a song medley comprised of “Dixie,” “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” and “All My Trials.” Elvis began singing it in his concerts in 1972.

What is your favorite movie, song, book about Elvis that begins with ‘A’? Please comment below. Check back tomorrow to see what ‘B’ topic I’ve chosen for Elvis, as my A to Z April Blogging Challenge continues herea2z-h-small
