Grizzlies Silence Thunder 98-95 in another OT thriller, Lead Series 2-1
Game 1 was all Thunder. Game 2 was up for grabs. Game 3 was all Grizzlies, until the final minute. Memphis continued its consecutive win streak at the Grindhouse as the Grizzlies defeated OKC 98-95 in overtime, taking a 2-1 lead in the series.
The Grizzlies did what they always do, grit and grind their way to a win. In the first half, Memphis held OKC to just 36 points, its lowest all season. The Grizzlies led the entire game, until the Thunder tied it in the last minute of regulation after a 17-0 run. Knotted at 85, Memphis and OKC headed to overtime for the second consecutive game of the series. The Grizzlies came out strong in OT and held the Thunder off to win 98-95.
Mike Conley, who received the NBA Sportsmanship Award today, led the Grizzlies with 20 points. Zach Randolph scored 16 points with 10 rebounds and 6 assists. Marc Gasol added 14 points. Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook each scored 30 points for the Thunder.
The Memphis bench continued to produce, contributing to over one-third of the Grizzlies’ points. Tony Allen was especially strong off the bench with his usual menacing defense. But tonight Allen, dubbed “The Grindfather,” scored 16 points. Backing up Conley, Beno Udrih scored 12 points off the bench.
Look for the Grizzlies to continue to grit and grind their way to their third consecutive win of the series in Game 4 Saturday night at the Grindhouse in Memphis.
