Family Ties, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Foreigner – the 1980s from A to Z

Blogging from A to Z April Challenge

It’s, like, totally bitchin’ you came back to find out what my favorite F’s are from the 1980s. Like the most righteous tv show, movie and music from the 80s.

Family Ties
Spanning almost the entire decade running from 1982 to 1989, I literally grew up with Family Ties. I watched it every week with my parents and starred the adorable Michael J. Fox. It is for these reasons I chose Family Ties over Facts of Life as my favorite F television show from the 80s. Although it was really close. I still watch both when the repeats are aired, and have the first few seasons of both on dvd.

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
I saw Ferris Bueller’s Day Off on my last day of middle school with about two rows of my classmates. And for that reason alone, Ferris will always hold a special place in my heart. Ferris is going to be shown in theaters for two days this May to commemorate its 30th anniversary, even though it was release in June (not May) 1986.

Foreigner
I do not really have a clear favorite F band or song from the 80s. Flock of Seagulls and Frankie Goes to Hollywood were both good, but Foreigner had more of a lasting impact with me. I would not call them one of my favorite bands, but they did have some great songs in the 80s including “Waiting for a Girl Like You,” “That Was Yesterday,” “Say You Will,” but my favorite of theirs is “I Want to Know What Love Is.”

Thank you for joining me on my trip back to the totally tubular 1980s as I complete my Blogging from A to Z Challenge. What was your favorite tv show, movie and band or song from the 80s starting with the letter F? Please come back tomorrow to read about my faves from the 80s that start with the letter G. And be sure to check out the 1970s from A to Z here.

  2. Now we’re talking my language! I LOVED Alex P Keaton (Michael J Fox) in Family Ties, and I thought Ferris Bueller was hysterical. But Foreigner…. Foreigner holds a very special place in my heart as they were the very first concert that I went to. I lived in Idaho, and not many bands came to Idaho. But when they did, it was the most awesome thing.

  3. Ferris! I love that movie still. Used to watch Family Ties every week too. As for Foreigner – I’m not bad at that song on Rock Band 🙂

  4. Foreigner brings back high school memories. I too love Family Ties. By the way, Kim Fields from Facts of Life is on DWTS this season and danced to the theme this week.

  5. Hi Deena! Once again I’m not disappointed with your blogs during your A-Z 80’s challenge. Omg I loved Family Ties as well. That was a great show. Alex was the man. LOL Some of my favorites from that era were The Facts of Life, Fame, Fantasy Island (The Plane! The Plane! LMBO), Full House and if your counting cartoons, The Flintstones. I don’t think there was any other movie from that era that was as funny as Ferris Bueller. Haha. I still watch that movie till today and crack up every time I see it. Definitely one of my favs along with Fatal Attraction and Firestarter. I didn’t really have any favorite bands back then starting with the letter F but Foreigner was good. I still love “I Want To Know What Love Is” also! I love that song. Beautiful!!! Thanks again for a great blog my friend and keep up the great work. Blessings.

  6. Love all three of your choices! I had the biggest crush on Michael J. Fox because of Family Ties. And then when Back to Future came out, forget about it! Foreigner is such a great group. And Lou Gramm sang one of my favorite songs from The Lost Boys soundtrack. But Ferris. . . Ferris Bueller is my favorite. It brings me back so many great memories. I will be in the theater next month seeing it again. Maybe even twice. 🙂

I LOVE Foreigner! Such great music!!
Love Matthew Broderick as Ferris. That’s where he got his big start…
And Family Ties was a definite Must See.

    Great choices Deena!

  8. F is a great day. I love Foreigner, though it took me a while to appreciate them. And who wouldn’t love Ferris Bueller? I would love to say I was exactly like Ferris in the 80s, but that would not be true. I was closer to his buddy.
Family Ties was another favourite of mine. I wanted to be Alex and I wanted to date his sister Mallory (Justine Bateman).
