Living Colour end Vivid 25th Anniversary Tour in Annapolis
Last night’s sold out Living Colour show at Rams Head in Annapolis was fantastic! It was the last show of the Vivid 25th Anniversary Tour. I didn’t know much about Living Colour, except for their 1988 hit “Cult of Personality” off their debut album Vivid. I was pleasantly surprised how bluesy they are and what a great singer Corey Glover is.
Living Colour opened the show with a cover of Robert Johnson’s “Preachin’ Blues.” Being a huge Robert Johnson fan, I was quite excited and immediately knew this was going to be a great show! The second song was “Cult of Personality.” Shocking that THE big hit was second on the set list. Corey Glover sang a wonderful version of “Amazing Grace,” reminiscent of Otis Redding. Living Colour did a great tribute to Lou Reed with an extended version of “Walk on the Wild Side.” Will Calhoun played an amazing drum solo. What a drummer he is! (U2 should really let Larry play a drum solo once in a while, you know since he started the band!) Even though I did not know the song, “Love Rears Its Ugly Head” was my favorite of the night. It was bluesy and passionate, and now that I know the lyrics I like it even better.
We got the set list at the end of the show. (It’s nice to sit at a table right at the stage.) We met lead singer Corey Glover, guitarist Vernon Reid and drummer Will Calhoun after the show. They are great guys! For all my pictures from the Living Colour show last night, please click here.
And for you drum enthusiasts,
If you are going to see a show at Rams Head on Stage in Annapolis, definitely get the Performance Package. It is free and gives you a free beer after the show, discounted parking at Gott’s garage and 10% off your meal – I highly recommend the incredibly rich and cheesy delicious Mac and Cheese with lump crab meat.
