Memphis Grizzlies 50 Wins and 7th in West
With their 50th win of the season, their 14th consecutive win at home and fifth win in a row, the Memphis Grizzlies clinch the seventh seed in the Western Conference defeating the Dallas Mavericks 106-105 in overtime. This win gives No. 7 Memphis a first-round playoff matchup with No. 2 Oklahoma City Thunder.
The game was tied up 93-93 at the end of regulation. With 1.1 seconds left in OT, Mike Conley was fouled and made both free throws to put the Grizzlies up 106-105. Zach Randolph led the Grizzlies with 27 points and 14 rebounds for his 47th double-double of the season. Mike Conley scored 22 points and had five assists. Marc Gasol scored 19 points and had nine rebounds and nine assists. Tony Allen added 13 points.
The Grizzlies set a franchise record with their 14th consecutive home win. The Mavs were the last team to beat the Grizzlies in Memphis back on February 5. Memphis became the seventh team in the West with 50 wins this season. This is the Grizzlies’ third 50-win season in franchise history. This season saw the highest attendance (averaging 16,718) at FedExForum since the Grizzlies’ inaugural 2004-05 season in Memphis.
With the win, the Grizzlies (50-32) moved up to the seventh seed in the Western Conference pushing Dallas (49-33) down to the eighth seed. Memphis will open the postseason Saturday night at Oklahoma City. The Grizzlies beat the Thunder in the semifinals last season, but only won one out of four games with OKC this season.
Memphis is considered the scariest underdog in the playoffs. The Grizzlies slow down the pace of the game more than any other team in the NBA. With their size and defensive intensity, the Grizzlies will ‘Grit and Grind’ their way to victory over the Thunder. Believe Memphis!
