Celebrating my 42nd Birthday twice

Last Saturday was my second 21st birthday (I turned 42), and this weekend I am celebrating a second time. I have had this coming weekend planned for months. The Jordan Knight concert (technically the Nick and Knight concert) just happened to be in Philadelphia the night before the Broncos play the Jets in New Jersey. I decided to make a weekend of it and celebrate my birthday a week late. At the last minute, an opportunity came up to spend the weekend on my actual birthday with my mom in Ocean City, so I celebrated last weekend and will celebrate again this coming weekend.

We had a wonderful, fun and relaxing time in Ocean City. With our hotel room on 17th Street on the Boardwalk, we had a beautiful view of the Atlantic Ocean. I spent a lot of time sitting on the balcony reading and listening to the crashing waves. If I had a balcony overlooking the ocean, I would never watch tv. It’s just so soothing and a great place to think and relax and read. We arrived in Ocean City last Friday around noon and stopped at the Ocean Downs Casino before checking into our hotel. Ocean Downs is about five minutes before you go over the bridge in Ocean City. We played for a few hours then checked into our hotel, unpacked, watched the end of the Orioles game (that exciting come from behind win in the 8th inning of game two of the ALDS) then had dinner in our hotel’s restaurant, which was pretty good. Saturday, my birthday, we slept in and relaxed. I walked a mile up the boardwalk and back, stopping for a great slice of NY style pizza – eating it outside on the boardwalk of course. We watched the Corvette parade then met our friends for dinner at Davinci’s By the Sea and had a great Italian birthday dinner. Sunday we left for home, but not before stopping back at Ocean Downs Casino to play the slots for a couple more hours. It was a great birthday weekend!

This weekend for part two of my birthday celebration won’t be as relaxing, but will be (or should be) more exciting. Each day will be more exciting than the next. Tonight I am going to game one of the ALCS as the Baltimore Orioles take on the Kansas City Royals – assuming it doesn’t get rained out. I was able to score a ticket off Stub Hub in the same section as my dad and his friend. We’re under cover and near home plate (section 47). If it gets rained out and postponed to tomorrow, I will be out my $100+ I spent because I won’t be able to go to the game tomorrow because I will be in Philadelphia for the Nick and Knight concert. I am going to see Jordan Knight (my favorite New Kids on the Block). I don’t know much about Nick Carter from the Back Street Boys – I never listened to them. Although I have been watching Nick’s reality show and reading his memoir. I am driving up to Philly in the afternoon, checking into my hotel which is less than a mile from the venue. I bought a VIP / Meet and Greet for Jordan. I have had VIP for NKOTB before, but this time it’s just for Jordan. All the time will be spent meeting Jordan! I am not sure if we get in to watch the sound check, but I get to meet Jordan and get a one on one photo with him – unlike the group of five girls with the photo of all the NKOTB guys. Then there is an after party (called Quickie) after the concert where I am pretty sure I got a picture with both Jordan and Nick. Should be a fun night in Philly! The next morning I will drive up to Jersey for the Broncos – Jets game – this will be my favorite part of the weekend (assuming we win). I want to be there when the gates open at 11am if not before – maybe when the buses arrive. I have a great seat just eight rows off the field in the corner endzone on the Broncos side, not sure if it is near the tunnel or not. It might be a little weird to be at the same stadium where they lost that terrible Super Bowl last season. Going to try not to think about that.
