Last week Wednesday October 21, 2015 was Back to the Future Day, the day Marty and Doc traveled into the future in Back to the Future II. Today is the 30th anniversary of the day (October 26, 1955) Marty left the present, traveled back into 1955 and then back to the present in Back to the Future. It is hard to believe it has been 30 years since Back to the Future was released, and even harder to believe that the ‘future’ (October 21, 2015) is now the past. They really got the future wrong too. We have no flying cars and no hover boards, but we do have the internet and smart phones, which wasn’t even a thought in Back to the Future II.
To celebrate Back to the Future Day last Wednesday October 21, 2015, I met a friend at my local movie theater and for over six hours eating a lot of overly buttered popcorn we watched the Back to the Future trilogy. Even though I have the trilogy on dvd and watch it periodically, including just over a month ago, it was great to see it on the big screen like I had originally when I was a teenager. I actually noticed some things I hadn’t seen before, and it was fun to hear the audience cheer when it was announced Marty and Doc were going to the future on Wednesday October 21, 2015.
