“Never Been to Spain” – Elvis from A to Z
My ‘N’ Elvis topic for the A to Z Blogging Challenge is song that was never released as an Elvis studio single, but has always been one of my favorites and I think one of the best live songs Elvis ever did. “Never Been to Spain” was written and released by Hoyt Axton in 1971, but was made popular later that year by Three Dog Night. It was included on Elvis’ 1972 live album As Recorded at Madison Square Garden and became a staple in Elvis’ live shows in the early 1970s.
I love “Never Been to Spain” for the passionate way Elvis sings it for the build up of the music. It’s not about the lyrics with this one, it is the sexy, impassioned way Elvis performs it.

Never Been to Spain is probably one of the best letter N song by Elvis. My second choice would be never again. But I love how intense the music is in Never Been to Spain, great choice!

The arrangement is almost identical to the one Three Dog Night used, but he sounds much better than Chuck Negron.

Yeah Elvis didn’t always change the arrangement, but always made it his own with his voice. Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts!

I’ve heard this before but didn’t know that was the name of it. One of my favorites would be “Now or Never.” A twofer!
