Chicago day 3 – Wrigley Field

Decided to skip day 2 of Lollapalooza and spend the day at Wrigley Field, and I wasn’t the only one. I visited Wrigley for the first time last September, but always like to spend an afternoon there. I have been lucky enough to see games at all three baseball meccas: Yankee Stadium, Fenway Park, and Wrigley Field. I arrived at Wrigley Field about an hour ahead of gametime to take in all that Wrigleyville had to offer.

Got in my seat about a half hour before the Reds took on the Cubs. Just in time to see the guy from MGMT throw out the first pitch and listen to Todd Park Mohr of Big Head Todd and the Monsters sing the national anthem. And that wasn’t all for celebrities at Wrigley today. Ron Howard (aka Ritchie Cunningham) sang ‘Take Me Out to the Ballgame’ during the 7th inning stretch. Unfortunately, I couldn’t see him because he was above me, but I could hear him. I actually teared up. I have loved Ron Howard since I was 3 watching Happy Days, which is still my favorite tv show.

The game was going along pretty quickly. The Cubs were down 4-1 at the bottom of the 9th. They loaded the bases, then someone was hit by a pitch and someone else walked, which made it 4-3. Then unfortunately the final batter struck out, so the Reds defeated the Cubs 4-3, but it was an exciting finish.

Walked around Wrigleyville after the game trying to find a cool little sports bar to have a beer, but everywhere was too crowded. I did see a lot of drums and a dog partying in a window. Decided instead to hang out on Michigan Avenue at the Congress Plaza Hotel bar outside and people watch across the street from the Lollapalooza entrance.

Got back to the hotel early, so I can relax, rest and conserve my energy for tomorrow’s Lollapalooza, especially Soundgarden’s performance! Please check out my video of my day at Wrigley http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eE9J3rHUek4
